Sokendai Asian Winter School 2014

Announce

The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (Sokendai) will organize a series of lectures and training course for students and young scientists from predominantly Asian countries in cooperation with five departments of the School of Physical Sciences ( Functional Molecular Science, Structural Molecular Science, Astronomical Science, Space and Astronautical Science, and Fusion Science).

Asian Winter School of the Department of Fusion Science will be held jointly with "Toki Lectures on Simulation Science 2014" from December 2, 2014 through December 5, 2014 at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). Subtheme of the Department of Fusion Science in this year is " Multiple Approaches in Plasma Physics and Fusion Science " . This course will contain lectures about basic plasma physics, plasma experiments aimed for thermo-nuclear fusion reactor, and simulations for fusion plasmas and complex phenomena of plasmas. Tours of the Large Helical Device (LHD) and the virtual reality system "CompleXcope" are also planned. In addition, convivial party and session of poster presentation will be held for mutual communication among participants and NIFS research staffs.

We expect many participants who are interested in fusion / plasma research.

Registration

The registration will be open from Aug. 18, 2014.
The deadline for registration is Sep. 16, 2014 (for international participants) / Oct. 31, 2014 (for participants in Japan).

Participation Fees: The participation Fees for this school is free.

Financial Support

Traveling and housing expense will be supported by Sokendai. However, total number of participants who could get the financial support is limited due to the budget. The financial support will be given on condition that you give a presentation about your ongoing research or future plans at informal poster session. The financial support will cover only expenses for your round trip fare between your nearest international airport and NIFS, and hotel rates. Any other cost for your stay in Japan should be at your own expense. The final decision of the financial support will be communicated to applicants directly.

Convivial Party

We are planning to hold the convivial party on Dec.3. The charge is 500JPY for student, and 3000JPY for staff. (This charge is not included in the financial support.)

Restaurant in NIFS

The prices of the meals at the restaurant in NIFS are as follows;
Breakfast: 8:00-9:30, 400JPY
Lunch: 11:30-13:30, 300JPY-500JPY
Supper 17:00-19:00, 500JPY
(The cost of meals during AWS2014 is not included in the financial support.)
